Wigs
....how to's |
| I
have recently ordered a toddler doll wig (heather - strawberry blonde)
for my hard plastic Saucy Walker doll. I received it yesterday and I was
very happy with it. I wanted to ask a question about attaching this wig
to my doll. I have looked at your page on Repair and Restoration but I
still am not 100% sure about the type of glue to use on her. This page
is wonderful by the way and I am sure I will be referring to it many times.
On the page there are 2 glues mentioned. One is called Mucilage glue (which
I am not familiar with) and the other is Rubber Cement. I was not sure
which one would be best to use on her. Also, how is the best way to remove
her old wig which of course has a net glued on to her head? I would appreciate
it if you could give me some advice with these two questions. I am anxious
to put her new hair on, she is a beautiful doll. Thank you in advance.
Again, the wig is wonderful and I am sure I will be ordering more in the
future. Keep up the good work, your site is great! Have a wonderful day,

how is
the best way to remove her old wig which of course has a net glued on
to her head? this one is tricky because you don't want to get any water
( or moisture) inside your doll's head. Try working the old wig back while
dry and 'rip' it off a little at a time. Use a fairly damp washcloth to
soften the glue if possible. You can also try the orange Glue Off (or
any orange-smelling cleaner) to get the old glue off. Be careful that
you don't get any of the Goof off on your doll's face as it could remove
the paint and feature. So use a cotton swab or something and do just a
little at a time. It will take a while so be atient and just keep
working at it. You can try some heavy-duty solvents (such as the Goof-off
you find in paint stores for paint removal) or nail polish remover but
be VERY CAREFUL as these WILL also remove the
paint (features) from the doll. Try to remove as much as you
can without using any type of solvent other than water. And try to keep
any water or solvant from getting inside your doll's head.
... about the type of glue to use on her... I personally recommend
Grrrip glue - which
is a fantastic white glue -- but any white fcraft glue will work.. Put
the wig on first, then take a popsicle stick (or anything that you want
to use) and use the stick to apply the glue under the wig elastic. Wipe
up the excess glue before it dries.
Mucilage glue is that kinda yellowy clear glue that we all used as kids
in school. The bottle had a rubber tip and you'd press down on the tip
of the bottle to get the glue out - remember? Rubber cement can be tricky
to work with, as you really need to apply the glue to both the wig side
and the head. If the doll isn't going to get a lot of hard play by children
the white glue should hold well enough to the hard plastic. Hope this
helps -- Susan |
