Seam Wacker picture All of us hate to clean greenware, so the shorter we can make cleaning time the better. That's why the Seam Wacker was invented.
This tool works best when using a short sawing motion (back and forth) across the seam.
We recommend using a wet cleaning method. There is a vinyl backed abrasive strip, available in a package of six, to be used in the Seam Wacker. This lasts much longer than the nylon tulle when cleaning soft-fired greeware. Porcelain in whatever stage is very abrasive, which is why your cleaning pads and brushes wear out so quickly.
If you do use the dry cleaning method,
we recommend using a face mask.
Seam wacker showing stretch of fabric
Fabric should be firm but not tight. It will take a little practice to get the feel for whatever tension suits each individual user.
Too tight creates flat seams and grooves.
The fabric will stretch a little with use, so tighten as needed.
The only time the inventor broke a piece while cleaning with the tool was when she slipped over the top edge of a leg and "clunked" the leg edge with the tool handle. So, when cleaning close to the edge of a leg or arm place one finger of your hand that's holding your porcelain over the edge so the fabric on the tool can't slip over the edge.
3 sizes of seam wackers
You may prefer to have two sets of tools --- one for the nylon tulle for initial cleaning and one for nylon hose for finer cleaning.
Making Replacement Fabrics
When cutting yor own replacement fabric, test the fabric for stretch. Length of the fabric should be in the direction that has the least stretch, with raw edges inside the fold to prevent scratches.
Medium & large Seam Wacker clamp

Don't put too much fabric in the tool, and it will work itself into crevices.
For the finger tool (smallest wacker) but fabric 1 1/2" x 6"
The medium wacker use fabric cut 6" x 12"
The largest wacker uses fabric cut 6" x 15".
Fold the width of the fabric (the 6" width) in half, and then in half again. The fabric for the medium and large seam wackers should measure 3/4" wide when folded..

Types of Fabrics
REplacement Fabric available pre-folded A specially made fabric netting comes with your Seam Wacker, with replacements and abrasive strips available here at Mini World. You can also make your own replacement using tulle, old nylons, or anything that you find works well.
The fabric best we have found for porcelain is the tolle that comes in the tool.
It is available by the yard at fabric stores.
Do not buy the fine bridal illusion because it's so fine it wears out at a very fast rate.
Here's how you replace the cleaning strips
